How to prepare for your flying day:

Preparing for a successful paragliding day requires thorough and meticulous planning. Here are some essential steps to ensure you are ready for your next flight:

1. Check the Weather Forecast (Meteo)

The day before your flight, conduct a comprehensive "five-point check" of the weather forecast. This involves:

Front: Look for any weather fronts that may affect your flying area. A front can bring sudden changes in wind and weather conditions, which can be dangerous.
Föhn: Be aware of the föhn effect, a dry and warm down-slope wind that can create hazardous flying conditions.
Nation-wide Wind:: Assess the general wind patterns across the country. Strong winds can affect your flight and make launching and landing difficult.
Regional Wind: Understand the local wind conditions specific to your flying site. Wind direction and speed can vary significantly in different regions.
Thunderstorms: Check for any forecasted rain or thunderstorms. These conditions can be extremely dangerous for paragliders.

While forecasts provide valuable information, remember that actual conditions can differ. As you travel to your flying site, observe the clouds and wind patterns to confirm if the weather matches the forecast. At the takeoff site, check the weather again to ensure it aligns with your expectations. Always prioritize safety and be prepared to adjust your plans based on the latest weather information.

2. Check Airspaces and Restrictions

Before your flight, review the airspaces where you intend to fly. Verify if there are any airspace restrictions for the day by consulting the Daily Airspace Bulletin (DABS). Additionally, familiarize yourself with the general airspace, wildlife regulations and local flying rules in the area, including maximum flight altitudes, wildlife protection areas, take-off and landing regulations. Understanding these regulations is crucial to avoid legal issues, conflict with the locals and ensure your safety and that of others sharing the airspace.

3. Prepare Your Equipment

Ensure all your equipment is in excellent condition and properly packed. Double-check that you have the appropriate clothing for the day's weather conditions, as well as charged radios and instruments. Pack enough food and water to stay hydrated and energized throughout the day. Also do not forget your sunscreen at home. A thorough equipment check ensures that nothing is left behind and that you are fully prepared for a safe and enjoyable flight.

By diligently following these steps, you can significantly enhance your safety and preparedness for your next paragliding adventure. Always remember that thorough preparation is key to a successful and enjoyable flight experience.
