⛰ Advanced Maneuver Training

Above-ground glider handling skills for everyday flying conditions.

For EN-A and EN-B pilots • No water required • Real conditions • Real scenario simulation

This is not a typical SIV course.

Classical SIV training happens above water with a rescue boat, and it has its place. But we could simulate safely most of the everyday flying situations. They happen on normal flights, in normal conditions, because the pilot never truly mastered the basics.

Advanced Maneuver Training is about keeping the glider above your head in real life. We prepare for the most common scenarios above ground, no boat, no lake, no expensive SIV course fee. You learn the reflexes that matter: what a collapse actually feels like, how to distinguish it from a stall, and how to respond correctly without panic. How to fly the wing "actively" in broken air, and how to stay calm when the sky gets rough. Most importantly, you build confidence in your own glider — understanding how it reacts, how it behaves in different conditions, and how to handle it effectively. The goal is to make you feel prepared for real flying conditions — not just a controlled SIV environment.

⚠ Important: This training is designed exclusively for EN-A and EN-B certified gliders. These wings are built to recover — and learning how to fly them actively is the foundation of confident everyday flying. We do not conduct this training with gliders that tend to have cravats after disturbance — those gliders should be trained above water with a life vest and rescue boat.
🔎 The sport is evolving. New flying techniques, new glider profiles, new line geometries, and more complex inner structures mean that pilots who learned the basics years ago or have new wings may have gaps and outdated toolset to solve real life flying situations. The correct pilot input and mastering them to a reflex level has become more important than ever.

The Four Pillars of Advanced Maneuver Training

What you practice and learn in a session with Miki

📖

Theory First: Collapse vs. Stall

Most pilots have experienced a collapse or a stall (while overreacting) — but very few truly understand what is happening and why. Knowing the difference is not just academic. It determines how you react (and how to avoid pilot induced errors).

  • Asymmetric and frontal collapses: what causes them, what the wing does, how to avoid them in rough air, and how to react correctly on EN-A/B wings if they happen
  • Full and partial stalls: how to avoid them, how they feel, how to recognise the warning signs early, and how to recover cleanly
  • Pitch oscillations: what to look for and how to correct them
  • Reading the sky: recognising conditions where collapses are likely before they happen
Session format: Ground briefing with visual aids before any flying. You understand first, then feel it.

Above-Ground Maneuver Practice

This is the core of what we do — and what makes it different. No water, no boat, no SIV lake. We go out to a regular flying location where the terrain allows for safe practice.

Maneuvers covered:

  • Asymmetric collapses — induced, stabilization, direction control, recovery
  • Frontal collapse — behavior and re-inflation
  • Fast descending maneuvers — entry, stable descent, clean exit
  • Pitch control — Swiss and German style, active exit
  • Minimum speed and stall point recognition — how to avoid overpiloting during flying
  • Spiral entry and exit — active speed control and controlled exit techniques
Only EN-A and EN-B gliders. These wings are designed to recover. We can safely practice the maneuvers and build trust in the wing's recovery without the risks of more advanced gliders (cravats, cascade effects, etc.). This is about mastering the basics safety techniques — not pushing limits.

👤 Who Is Advanced Maneuver Training For?

🏈

New License Holders

You passed your exam — but the exam only proves basic competency. Maneuver training teaches the reflexes that flying school cannot fully cover in the course: real confidence in real conditions.

Pilots Returning After a Pause

Life happens. If you haven't flown for a year or more, your reflexes need a refresh. Maneuver training is the smartest first step before getting back in the air.

🚪

After an Incident or Scare

An unexpected collapse, a hard landing, a near-miss — these shake confidence. Don't fly on fear. Work through it properly, above ground, in a safe and supportive way.

Foreign Pilots Visiting Switzerland

Alpine flying has different rules. Thermals are stronger, terrain is complex, and airspace is strict. Spend a day with Miki and learn the local conditions, flying sites, and mountain-specific safety rules.

🚀

Ambitious Pilots Wanting to Improve

You're comfortable flying, but want to push into more active air, stronger thermals, or longer XC flights. Safety coaching builds the technical and mental base for the next level.

✈️

Trust Your New Glider

You just bought a new glider — but before you head out into the wild, you want to truly understand how it handles. A session with Miki lets you learn your new wing's behavior, its quirks, and how to fly it confidently in real conditions. Leave the fear behind and fly with trust.

Miki's Approach

Advanced Maneuver Training is not a product Miki sells — it is how he believes paragliding should be taught from the start. The basic maneuvers are the most crucial skills a pilot can have. The sport is evolving, and pilots who mastered these reflexes early fly with a different kind of calm.

Sessions are 1:1 or very small group, always above ground, and always built around your glider, your flying style, and your specific weaknesses. There is no fixed syllabus — only what you actually need.

Mental Preparation is a crucial part of every session. Small groups allow us to truly understand who you are and where you are in your flying career. With proper mental coaching and confidence-building exercises, your safety level improves just as much as your technical skills. We don't just teach reflexes — we teach you to think clearly under pressure.

Safety first. Everything we do is designed with one goal: bringing you home safely after every flight.

Miki is available in English, German, and Hungarian.
