Thermals and first XC
Find the thermal, stay in it, find the core: an art that can be learned, theory first, then in the air. When the day and the group are ready, we leave the house thermal and fly a first line with Miki, close to home in the Engelberg valley or the Jura. Your first 20 or 30 km.
XC with Marcel Schmid
Three decades in the Swiss air and one of the best cross-country pilots in the country. Your next step in distance: he picks the best place for the day and for the group's level, from Central Switzerland to the Valais, and sets the line. You fly it. FAI badge flights confirmed on the day, online debrief with Miki afterwards. Places the Season Pass holders leave free are open to licensed pilots without a pass, CHF 350.
Hike & fly with Mihai Lazar
Competition pilot and hike & fly specialist: choosing a peak that works, packing light without cutting safety, judging a wild launch.

I believe there is only one way to become a better pilot: someone who knows you, watches you fly, and builds your next step around you.
I bring teaching experience from the University of Bern and a long interest in psychology. Two pilots can fly the same thermal and live through two completely different flights. So I look at the person first: how you experience a situation, what makes you tense, what gives you confidence.
Empathy is not a soft extra in this sport. It is how fear turns into skill. Your training plan follows your attitude and your pace, not a fixed syllabus.

What is it worth?
4 coaching days with Miki CHF 1,120 + 2 guest coach days CHF 700 + 4 theory evenings CHF 240 + 6 mentoring sessions CHF 360 = CHF 2,420. The member prices on gear and checks come on top and are not counted.
Pass sales close on 20 February 2027. Until the first theory evening on 23 February you can cancel and get everything back except CHF 100; after that the pass is not refunded. Max. 12 passes a year. Can't come on a day? Send a licensed friend in your place.

Weather guarantee: you do not lose a flying day to the weather
A backup day for every coaching day. A day lost to the weather moves to a backup day. If the weather still wins, you get a CHF 270 voucher per lost day for next year's Academy pass.
The fine print
Backup days: 22 to 23 May and 31 July to 1 August for the days with Miki, 13 June for the XC day with Marcel, 15 August for the hike & fly day with Mihai. We decide at 20:00 the evening before and post it in the group.
A day counts as held once we have trained for at least half a day, on the ground or in the air, also if you decide not to launch. If the weather stops us earlier, it counts as half a day and you get half a backup day. No training possible at all? The whole day moves.
The guarantee counts the season's flying days, not your own attendance: every pass holder gets the same per missing day.

4 to 12 pilots per flying day. The dates are fixed in winter and only ever move to the backup days.
Good questions
Are there students on these days?
No. The flying days are for licensed pilots only: SHV brevet, IPPI 4 or IPPI 5. That goes for pass holders and friends sent in your place. Students train in the school's own courses.
How big are the groups?
Small enough for personal coaching. On groundhandling, thermal and XC days there are max. 6 pilots per coach: from 7 pilots, a second experienced coach joins. On maneuver days you fly one at a time with Miki on the radio, and a launch assistant keeps the turnaround fast. Max. 12 passes a year, so never more than 12 pilots on a day.
What if the weather takes a day?
Every coaching day has a backup day, and a lost day moves there. A day counts as held once we have trained for at least half a day, on the ground or in the air, also if you decide not to launch; if the weather stops us earlier, you get half a backup day. If even the backup days are used up, you get a CHF 270 voucher per lost day, as described in the weather guarantee.
Which topic is on which day?
The weather decides. In spring we do one groundhandling day and one maneuver day, and Miki picks which comes first; in summer both days are thermals and, when the air allows, a first XC line close to home; the big XC day is with Marcel. Miki picks the topic that fits the day and announces it in the group, usually the evening before.
What if I cannot make a day?
Send a licensed friend in your place. If you are ill, you can join any backup day that runs instead. Out for the rest of the season through illness or injury? Tell Miki before the next flying day, with a doctor's note, and what is left of your pass becomes a voucher for next year's Academy pass: CHF 1,990 minus a CHF 100 handling fee and CHF 400 for every flying day the season has already held. Other missed days are not refunded, also when a backup day you wanted to join is rained off: the weather guarantee covers the season's flying days, not your own attendance. That is what keeps the pass this affordable.
Can I cancel the pass?
Until the first theory evening on 23 February you get everything back except CHF 100. After that the pass is not refunded, but you can send a licensed friend in your place.
Do you help with equipment?
Yes. Equipment advice is free if you buy your gear with us, and CHF 200 if you buy elsewhere. Pass holders get 20% off new gliders, harnesses and reserves from the brands we carry, and 10% off the glider check and reserve repack.
Can I book online coaching without a pass?
Yes. CHF 60 for 30 minutes in the weekly office hours (March to August), about anything that moves you as a pilot: XC analysis, your flying day, gear, weather or mindset. Mentoring is included in the pass: one 30-minute session every month, March to August.
How do the online evenings work?
They are live and last two hours. One evening costs CHF 60, all 4 evenings CHF 200, and they are included in the Season Pass. Pass holders who miss an evening get the recording.
Does a second season make sense?
Yes. The topics stay, your goals grow: a longer cross-country line, more demanding maneuvers, stronger thermals. Miki sets your personal targets at the start of each season. This year's pass holders also get a priority window to book next year's pass before sales open to everyone.
